Classification of Weapons

The classification of weapons into various grouping can be carried out in a number of ways, most commonly by how the weapon works (e.g. chemical weapons or mêlée weapons); who uses the weapon (e.g. artillery weapons or naval weapons); or what the weapon targets (e.g. anti-tank weapons or anti-submarine weapons).
